Who am I?

My name is John Myles and this is my personal blog/web space.  Theres absolutely no reason for it’s existence other than to amuse me and occasionally amuse my friends and family.  I also use the webspace to play around with apps from time to time.

What do I do?

Right now i’m a freelance web developer (note thats developer and not designer!) but am working full time at the moment for a single client (and am likely to be for a while).  Most of my recent work has been written in Perl, on various versions of Solaris, and using either MySQL and/or Oracle database backends.  Of course being a web developer I also use things like HTML, XML, CSS and Javascript on a daily basis as well.  In fact, i’ve been lucky to have been involved in or contributed to projects using a wide variety of programming languages, tools and operating systems…..though i don’t mind admitting that i’m more than a little bit rusty on some having not used them for a number of years.

What dont I do?

I’m not a designer.  I dont have an artistic bone in my body!  I leave the all things like that to people like my friend Steve Russam who will happily spend all day telling you about different typeface’s and things like that.  Alternatively, theres also my other friend Steve Dalgleish who will do a bit of both developing and designing.  I’d happily recommend either of them should you need some work done in their respective fields.

So am I looking for work?

No, not at the moment.  Although I’m officially freelance i’m working for a client full time at the moment and it looks like I’ll be doing so for a while yet.

Outside of work what are my interests?

I’m a big american football fan and support the Chicago Bears.  I also enjoy playing various sports too though not quite as often as I would like or used to…old age or laziness….i’ll let you decide   And of course like any other geek i also enjoy playing computer games.
